The experience

I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a “limousine bus” in Vietnam. Turns out it’s just a comfy van with extra legroom: no champagne or anything, but honestly, after Hanoi’s morning noise, that quiet AC was enough. Our guide, Minh, had this gentle way of sharing stories about Hoa Lu’s emperors as we walked toward the old temples. The air smelled like wet stone and incense. Some local kids played nearby: one waved at me and then immediately hid behind his mom. I tried saying hello in Vietnamese and probably botched it. Minh grinned but didn’t correct me.

Lunch came earlier than I expected: buffet style in Tam Coc. There was this pork dish I still think about (wish I’d asked for the name), plus crispy tofu and something green that tasted like river water in a good way? After eating too much (always my problem), we got into little rowboats for the Tam Coc boat tour. The woman rowing us used her feet instead of hands. She laughed when we tried to copy her rhythm.
