Then you get lunch, a proper buffet with local food, before the real highlight kicks in.
The bamboo boat ride through Tam Coc takes about 1.5 hours, and it's the kind of thing that feels slower than it is. You're floating through a narrow river with limestone cliffs rising up on both sides, paddy fields visible in the distance, and every so often the boat glides into a cave where the water goes dark and the guide points out the stalactites.
