The Experience

Someone’s waving from a shiny minibus outside the Hanoi Old Quarter — turns out it’s our guide, Quang, grinning like he knows we’re about to see something good. We’re barely out of the city before the green starts creeping in everywhere. I’m not sure what I expected from this Ninh Binh day trip, but the highway melts away fast and suddenly we’re walking under old banyan trees at Hoa Lu.
