Kayaking Ha Long Bay: 4-hour private boat with 2 caves
You paddle into a fishing village lagoon most cruise ships never reach.
A 4-hour private boat tour of Ha Long Bay's core zone includes kayaking or bamboo boat rowing into Ba Hang lagoon at a fishing village, plus guided walks through Thien Cung cave (200 steps up, 150 down) and Dau Go cave (150 steps up, 350 down). The wooden boat carries only your group, runs two daily shifts, and serves lunch onboard. A live English-speaking guide leads the route. The afternoon shift may run later to maximize time on the water.

The experience
The boat departs from Halong City harbor at either 8 a.m. or noon and stays in the core zone of Ha Long Bay: the narrow channels where the giant cruise ships cannot go. This matters because you see the limestone karsts and rock formations up close, and the water stays calmer. The first stop is Thien Cung cave, a 50-minute visit with lit passages and a walking route of about 400 meters inside. The climb is 200 steps up and 150 down. Next comes Dau Go cave, which is larger and less brightly lit than Thien Cung but has its own character if you want to spend 30 minutes exploring it (note: heavy rain can close this cave).
The kayaking or bamboo boat rowing happens at Ba Hang lagoon near a fishing village. You paddle for about 35 minutes in shallow, protected water surrounded by the village's working boats and the bay's landscape. Bring extra clothes for this part. You will get wet. The boat then cruises for 45 minutes back toward the harbor, passing Hon Ga Choi Island, the famous rock formation that is the symbol of Ha Long Bay. Lunch is served onboard and covers all dietary requests if you arrange it in advance. The boat has a full restaurant and clean facilities on two decks, including a sundeck with sitting chairs.
You choose between a Private Tour (meeting at the harbor ticket room and traveling with only your group) or a Port of Call Tour (pickup at your cruise ship's foot if you are arriving by ship, with return timed to the vessel's departure). Either way, the guide speaks English and the boat runs only for your party: no mixing with other groups.

Is this one for you?Book the Private Tour if you want to start from Halong City harbor on your own schedule. Choose Port of Call if you are arriving by cruise ship and need pickup and return timed to your vessel. The 4-hour window covers both caves, the lagoon paddle, and the return cruise, so the fixed schedule is what keeps all three stops inside a single morning or afternoon.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 8 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is Ba Hang lagoon like when you kayak there?
Ba Hang is a shallow, protected lagoon at a working fishing village where you paddle for about 35 minutes surrounded by the village's boats and Ha Long Bay's limestone landscape. The water is calm enough for the kayaking to be manageable, though you will need extra clothes because you will get wet.
Can you skip the cave walks if you don't want to climb the steps?
Yes. Both Thien Cung cave and Dau Go cave are listed as inclusive but optional. You can pass on either one if hiking is not for you. The guide will let you stay on the boat or explore at your own pace.
Does the tour work if I'm arriving on a cruise ship?
Yes. The Port of Call Tour option includes pickup at your cruise ship's foot and return timed to the ship's departure, so the entire 4-hour route fits inside one port call. A private car brings you from the ship to the boat and back.
What time does the afternoon shift end?
The afternoon shift starts at noon and normally ends around 4 p.m., but the operator may run it later than scheduled to maximize your time on the water and in the bay.
Is lunch included in the price?
Lunch is served onboard and can be arranged for all dietary needs, but it is an extra cost beyond the tour price. Contact the operator in advance to order and confirm the menu.
