Lunch at a local restaurant breaks the day around noon, then at 1:30 PM you enter the Hue Citadel itself—the walled imperial city where Vietnam's Nguyen Dynasty ruled from 1802 to 1945. The guide walks you through the royal gates, courtyards and palaces that survive within the fortress walls. At 3 PM you visit Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue's largest and most recognizable religious structure, sitting on a riverbank with seven tiers rising above the landscape. The return drive to Da Nang leaves at 5:30 PM, arriving back at your hotel by 6 PM.
