The Experience

The day starts with pickup between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m. depending on whether you're staying in Hoi An or Da Nang, then the van heads north toward Hue. The route crosses Hai Van Pass, a mountain crossing nearly 500 meters above sea level that connects the two cities and opens onto views of Lang Co seascape below. The driver stops here so you can step out and see the coastline, then continues to Lap An Lagoon, where fishermen work the water using rubber tires to raise and catch oysters—a working landscape you can watch from the shore before moving on.

Lunch happens at a local Hue restaurant serving traditional Hue food, then the tour moves through the three main sites. Khai Dinh Tomb sits on Chau Chu mountain and holds the mausoleum of the twelfth Nguyen emperor; the Hue Citadel (also called the Imperial City) was the palace of all 13 Nguyen kings from the dynasty's founder Gia Long to its last king Bao Dai, with architecture where every detail carries symbolic meaning. Thien Mu Pagoda, standing more than 400 years old, overlooks the Perfume River and remains a site of religious significance. The guide walks you through each one, explaining the history and the architectural choices that shaped them.

The tour runs 11 to 12 hours total and wraps with dropoff at your hotel in either Hoi An or Da Nang. The van holds up to 16 people, so the group stays small. Mineral water is provided throughout the day. Entrance fees to the Citadel and Khai Dinh Tomb are not included in the tour price and are paid on-site.
