The Experience
The day starts with pickup at 7:30am from your hotel in Hoi An or Da Nang. On the drive to Hue, the car stops at Lap An lagoon for about 15–20 minutes so you can see how pearls are farmed there—a quick look at the work before the main sites. After arriving in Hue, you'll spend roughly 30 minutes at Khai Dinh Tomb, where the guide walks you through the architecture and the history of the king it was built for.
Lunch happens in the city, then you move into the Hue Citadel for 1.5 to 2 hours. This is the centerpiece of the day: the walled Imperial City built in 1803 under Emperor Gia Long as Vietnam's new capital. It holds the palaces where the royal family lived, shrines, gardens and villas for mandarins—a full compound that mostly became ceremonial after the French colonial period took hold and the monarchy ended in 1945. The guide explains the layout and the history as you walk through.
The last stop is Thien Mu Pagoda, one of Vietnam's oldest. The guide shares the pagoda's history and significance before the drive back to your hotel. The tour runs 10 to 11 hours total. Bottled water, transport, lunch and all entrance fees are included; the guide speaks English or French, and you can request another language by contacting the operator ahead of time.
