The Experience

So you're in Hoi An or Da Nang and someone tells you there's a cooking class that actually skips the market tour and the boat ride and just gets straight to the food — and yeah, that's exactly what this is. The driver picks you up from your hotel in the city center, takes you out to either Cam Thanh Village if you're in Hoi An or a local house in Da Nang, and then you're standing in someone's kitchen learning to make beef noodle soup, spring rolls, and a crispy Hoi An pancake called banh xeo. Two hours, four dishes, one instructor who speaks English and knows how to pace it so you're not standing around waiting for oil to heat.

The class runs twice a day — morning at 10:15am or afternoon at 4:15pm from Hoi An, and 9:15am or 3:15pm from Da Nang — so you can fit it around whatever else you're doing. The menu changes depending on the day and which city you're in. If you're in Hoi An you'll make the beef noodle soup, spring rolls, the pancake, and a fresh spring roll without rice paper. Da Nang rotates between two menus: one has quang noodles and fish sauce chicken wings, the other swaps those for pho and green mango salad with shrimp. Either way, you're learning techniques that actually work, not just following along while someone else cooks. The instructor walks you through the sauce, the rolling, the frying — the things that make it taste right.

After you finish cooking, you sit down and eat what you made. The whole thing wraps up by 12:30pm or 6:30pm depending on which session you chose, and the driver takes you back to your hotel. It's straightforward: no upsell, no extra activities tacked on, no pressure to buy anything. If you've got kids or limited time, this works because it's just the cooking — two hours in, two hours done. The class is wheelchair accessible, and small children can come along; infants just need to sit on an adult's lap since there's not much moving around once you're in the kitchen.

What’s included

Hotel pickup and drop-off from your city center hotel, a two-hour cooking class with an English-speaking instructor at a local kitchen in Cam Thanh Village (Hoi An) or a local house (Da Nang), instruction on preparing four authentic Vietnamese dishes, a bottle of water, and the meal you prepare during the class.

Is this one for you?Right for travelers who want to learn Vietnamese cooking without the market tour or extra activities, and for families with small children or limited time. The two-hour format means you're in and out of the kitchen by early afternoon or evening, which is what makes it fit into a shorter itinerary.
