The experience

The Linh Ung Pagoda sits on Son Tra Peninsula with views across the coast. Legend holds that a Buddha statue drifted ashore here in the 19th century, and fishermen built a shrine at the spot. From there, the tour moves through Danang's modern landmarks (the Dragon Bridge, a 666-meter span designed to resemble a dragon and lit at night, and the Han River Bridge) before heading to My Khe Beach, a 20-mile stretch of white sand where you can stop if the schedule allows. The route then turns to Hoi An, a 15th-to-19th-century trading port and UNESCO site thirty minutes away, where a walking tour takes you through a preserved merchant house, the Hoi An Museum, a Chinese Assembly Hall, and the Japanese Covered Bridge.

Marble Mountain, a cluster of limestone peaks, holds Buddhist and Hindu grottoes accessible by a 156-step staircase to the summit of Thuy Son. From the top, you see the surrounding area and the other marble mountains in the distance. The grottoes (Huyen Khong and Tang Chon among them) contain statues and relief carvings carved directly into the stone. Han Market, where locals shop for fresh vegetables and seafood in the early morning, rounds out the city side of the day. The ground floor sells tropical fruits, chilli paste, Ly Son garlic, and ceramics with designs specific to Danang and Hoi An.
