Hue City Da Nang Hoi An tour: 7-hour shore excursion
The Perfume River cruise lasts 30 minutes, not the whole afternoon.
Choose between two 7-hour guided tours departing from Chan May cruise port: one explores Hue's Imperial Citadel, oldest pagoda and a dragon boat ride on the Perfume River. The other drives through Hai Van Pass to Da Nang, then walks Hoi An Ancient Town and its lantern workshops. Both include a local English-speaking guide, hotel or port pickup, and lunch. A private car option with driver is also available for either destination or Ba Na Hills Golden Bridge.

The experience
The two package tours run the same length and follow the same pickup-and-return rhythm, but they split at the first fork: Hue heads inland to the former royal capital, while Da Nang and Hoi An stay coastal and climb the scenic Hai Van Pass. Both depart from Chan May cruise port and time the return before ship departure. The Hue tour walks the Imperial Citadel (built 1804–1833 by the first Nguyen Dynasty kings), then moves to Thien Mu Pagoda, the oldest and most famous in Hue, founded in 1601. A 30-minute dragon boat cruise on the Perfume River closes the day. The Da Nang route crosses Hai Van Pass at 500 meters elevation, a 20-kilometer mountain road that separates Thua Thien-Hue province from Da Nang city, then arrives in Hoi An for lunch and a walking tour of the market, assembly halls and the Japanese Covered Bridge. A lantern workshop stop lets you watch artisans at work and buy souvenirs.
Entry fees and meals come included in both package tours. The local guide leads the walking sections and explains the history and daily role of Buddhism in Hue, or the architecture and trade heritage of Hoi An. If you prefer to move at your own pace or need flexibility on timing, a private car with English-speaking driver is available for the same destinations or for Ba Na Hills and its Golden Bridge, though entry fees and meals are not included in that option. Pickup inside the port costs an extra 25 USD per person if you choose it.

Is this one for you?The package tours suit travelers who want entry, meals and a guide included in one booking and don't mind a fixed schedule timed to ship departure. Choose the private car if you prefer to set your own pace at each stop and don't need the guide narration or meals arranged. You'll have more flexibility but will pay separately for entry and food.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (7 to 11 years); Child (3 to 6 years); Infant (under 3).
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Hue Imperial Citadel and why does the tour spend time there?
The Hue Imperial Citadel was the center of economy, culture and political activity for the royal family under the Nguyen Dynasty. Built between 1804 and 1833 by the first two kings, it stands as the former capital's most significant historical site, and the tour includes a walking exploration of the citadel and the Forbidden City within it.
Does the Da Nang option include time to explore Hoi An on my own, or is it all guided walking?
The tour includes a guided walking section through Hoi An's market, assembly halls and the Japanese Covered Bridge, plus a stop at a lantern workshop where artisans demonstrate their craft. You have time to shop and explore, though the pace is set by the group and guide.
What happens at Hai Van Pass, and how long do we spend there?
Hai Van Pass is a scenic mountain road at 500 meters elevation that crosses the Bach Ma mountain range between Hue province and Da Nang. The tour drives through it as part of the route to Da Nang and Hoi An. It is a photo stop and a transition point, not a lengthy halt.
Can I book a private car instead of the group tour, and what changes?
Yes, a private car with English-speaking driver is available for Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An, or Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge. With a private car, entry fees and meals are not included, so you arrange and pay for those separately. The driver provides transport and narration only.
