Vietnam Motorbike Adventure: Ho Chi Minh Trail & Hidden Routes

You’ll ride Vietnam from north to south on a real adventure—unique routes, local food stops, expert guides who know every shortcut, and stories you won’t find in any guidebook.

experience

What’s the experience like?

The first morning in Hanoi was a bit misty, the kind that clings to your jacket and makes the city’s old quarter smell like strong coffee and exhaust. Our guide, Minh, checked every bike twice—he’s been riding these roads for over a decade and doesn’t miss a thing. We set off early, weaving through morning traffic before hitting quieter stretches outside the city. The hum of the engine and the cool air felt like freedom as rice paddies zipped past on either side.

Somewhere near Phong Nha, we stopped at a roadside stall for sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. The owner grinned when she saw our muddy boots—she must see plenty of riders come through here. Minh pointed out an old signpost marking part of the original Ho Chi Minh Trail. He explained how this route once carried supplies during the war, winding through thick jungle and hidden valleys. You can still spot old bomb craters if you know where to look.

By day five, we’d reached Quy Nhon—a coastal town that doesn’t get too many foreign visitors. The sea breeze here is salty and fresh, and there’s always someone grilling fish by the beach at sunset. Our group shared stories over bowls of bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup), tired but happy. Every day brought something new: mountain passes shrouded in fog, tiny villages where kids waved as we passed, even a sudden downpour that left us soaked but laughing.

The route is never boring—sometimes it’s smooth tarmac, other times it’s red dirt tracks that kick up clouds behind you. There’s always backup if you need it; our support crew isn’t far off with tools and cold drinks. Nights are spent in small guesthouses or family-run hotels, where you’ll hear roosters before sunrise and maybe catch a whiff of pho simmering somewhere nearby.
