The experience

Seven to eight hours round-trip gets you to three mountain zones that most visitors see only one at a time. The drive from Tashkent takes 90 minutes each way through fruit orchards and local villages. The stops themselves (Charvak Lake with its turquoise water ringed by Western Tian Shan peaks, Chimgan's ridge accessible by chairlift, and Amirsoy at 2,100 metres) fill the middle of the day. Because this is a private tour, you set the pace. Stop anywhere along the road that catches your eye, spend an extra hour at whichever site suits you, or skip an activity entirely and swap it for something else.

Horseback riding happens at Chimgan, where the chairlift also runs if you want the ridge without the saddle. Amirsoy has a cable car to the summit, the best vantage for watching the sun set before the drive back. Paragliding is an option in spring and autumn. Halfway through, you stop at a riverside café for mountain kebabs, local tea and Uzbek dishes like pilov and manti. This meal is optional and you choose whether to eat. Your guide carries a power bank and will photograph you at the viewpoints.

Hotel pickup and drop-off, fuel, parking and insurance are all included in the price, so there are no surprise charges on the road. Cable car and chairlift tickets run about $25 total and are paid separately at each site. The tour suits all fitness levels, though the cable car and chairlift are not suitable for anyone with a fear of heights.
