The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Tashkent hotel and transfer to the railway station, then a high-speed train carries you to Samarkand by 9–10 am. Your guide meets you at the station and leads you through the city's main attractions over the next seven to eight hours. You'll stand in Registan Square, the heart of the ancient Timurid capital, where three madrasas face each other across the plaza; visit Gur Emir Mausoleum, a masterpiece of Islamic medieval architecture; and walk through Bibi-Khanym Mosque, one of the largest in the Islamic world when it was built in the 15th century.
The itinerary also takes you to Shah-i-Zinda, a complex of 14th and 15th-century mausoleums, and Ulugh Beg Observatory, a small museum standing on the remains of the astronomer-king's 15th-century site. You'll spend time in the Siab Bazaar, Samarkand's largest traditional market, and visit Afrasiyab Museum, built on one of the world's largest archaeological sites: the ancient city destroyed by the Mongols in the early 13th century. Lunch is served at a traditional local house.
The return journey leaves Samarkand around 5–6 pm by high-speed train, arriving in Tashkent by 7–8 pm, where your driver drops you at your hotel. All transfers, transportation in air-conditioned vehicles, entrance fees, train tickets in economy class, a guide in English (or another language on request), mineral water and lunch are included. The tour suits all fitness levels and works for anyone short on time but wanting to see Samarkand's main sites in one day.

What is Registan Square and why does it matter in Samarkand?
Registan Square was the heart of the ancient Timurid city of Samarkand. The plaza is framed by three madrasas (the Ulug Bek Madrasa built in 1417 by the astronomer king, the Sher-Dor Madrasa from the 17th century, and a third facing them) making it the historic center you'll spend time exploring on the tour.
How much time do I actually spend in Samarkand, and when does the tour end?
You arrive in Samarkand by 9–10 am and depart by high-speed train around 5–6 pm, giving you roughly seven to eight hours in the city. The full day from hotel pickup in Tashkent to hotel drop-off runs nine to fourteen hours depending on traffic and train schedules.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Yes, lunch is included and served at a traditional local house, letting you taste local food without arranging a separate meal.
What's the difference between the group tour and private tour options?

What happens if I book less than 60 days before the tour?
High-speed train tickets may not be available and will be replaced with the most comfortable class of regular train service. Language guides other than English may also be unavailable and replaced with an English-speaking guide.
