The experience
How do you see four of Central Asia's most significant cities without arranging trains, hotels, and guides separately? This tour strings them together over seven days, moving you from Tashkent's museums and bazaars to Samarkand's Registan Square and Shah-i-Zinda mausoleums, then to Bukhara's fortress and trading domes, and finally to Khiva's walled old city. A guide who speaks your language meets you at the airport in Tashkent and stays with you through each city, explaining the history and architecture as you move through the sites. The high-speed Afrosiyob train carries you between cities: Tashkent to Samarkand takes about two hours fifteen minutes, Samarkand to Bukhara roughly an hour and a half, and Bukhara to Khiva around six to seven hours. You sleep in comfortable 3-4 star hotels near the historical centers, with breakfast and Wi-Fi included each night.
The itinerary balances major landmarks with the everyday texture of these places. In Tashkent, you'll walk through the Hazrati Imam Complex with its 16th-century mosaics and the Muyi Muborak Library, which houses the Uthman Quran: one of the world's oldest. You'll browse Chorsu Bazaar, a centuries-old marketplace still organized by vendors selling spices, produce, and textiles. Samarkand centers on Registan Square, where three madrasahs face each other across a plaza, their turquoise domes and intricate tilework dating to the 15th century. You'll also visit the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, where Amir Timur is buried, and Shah-i-Zinda, a necropolis of blue-tiled tombs running back to the 9th century. In Bukhara, the Ark Fortress (the former royal residence with thick adobe walls and multiple courtyards) stands at the heart of the old city, and you'll explore the Samanid Mausoleum, a 10th-century structure made entirely of baked brick in geometric patterns. Khiva's Ichan-Kala fortress, enclosed by 10-meter clay walls, contains the Kalta-Minor minaret (unfinished, striking turquoise), the Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum with its famous turquoise dome, and the Juma Mosque, which holds 213 wooden columns, some over a thousand years old.
On the final evening in Khiva, you'll have free time before transfer to the airport for an overnight flight back to Tashkent, where you'll stay one more night before departure. A guide in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, or one of nine other languages is included. Entrance tickets to attractions and tips for the guide and driver are optional and chosen at checkout. The tour is wheelchair accessible, and public transportation options are available near the hotels if you want to explore on your own.

Top questions

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Japanese and Turkish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (6 to 17 years); Child (3 to 5 years); Infant (under 3).
What is Registan Square and why is it the centerpiece of Samarkand?
Registan Square is a plaza in the heart of Samarkand surrounded by three madrasahs, educational buildings, completed between 1420 and the 17th century. Each one displays elaborate Islamic architecture with turquoise mosaics, tall arches, and intricate tile patterns characteristic of the Timurid era. Historically, it served as a public gathering place, a center of trade, and an important educational complex, making it one of the most impressive landmarks in all of Uzbekistan.
How do you travel between the four cities on this tour?
You travel by high-speed Afrosiyob train: Tashkent to Samarkand takes about two hours fifteen minutes, Samarkand to Bukhara roughly an hour and a half, and Bukhara to Khiva around six to seven hours. Train tickets are included in the tour price. On the final evening, you fly from Khiva back to Tashkent on an overnight flight, also included.
What makes Ichan-Kala in Khiva different from the other old cities on the tour?
Ichan-Kala is a walled fortress enclosed by massive clay walls reaching 10 meters high, built over centuries from the 10th century onward but mostly between the 16th and 19th centuries. Inside the walls are palaces, mosques, madrasahs, and minarets in traditional Khorezmian style. It functions as a living open-air museum and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it a well-preserved snapshot of a Central Asian city frozen in time.
Are meals included in the tour price?
Breakfast is included each morning at your hotel. Lunch and dinner are not included in the tour price, so you'll have the flexibility to eat at local restaurants, bazaars, and eateries on your own. This also gives you the chance to explore Uzbek cuisine independently.
What happens if you're traveling alone? Is there an extra charge for a single room?
A single room supplement of USD 60 per night is available on the spot if you're traveling solo and want your own room rather than sharing. This is not included in the tour price and is arranged directly with the hotel.
