You practice yoga on top of the red rock after the hike, not before it.

This yoga and hiking activity in Snow Canyon combines a 2-2.5 mile desert hike with a one-hour yoga and meditation session on Navajo Sandstone, led by a guide trained in wilderness first aid and Utah ecology. The full outing takes about three to four hours. Sunrise and sunset departures work best in summer. All fitness levels are welcome, and children from age two can join. You'll receive a yoga mat, professional photos of your group, and a journal keepsake.

The experience

You meet at a designated location and walk with your guide to the trailhead, then hike through the desert ecosystem of Snow Canyon. Along the way, your Wilderness First Responder and Utah Master Naturalist guide points out the plants and animals that live here, so you're learning the landscape as you move through it. The hike covers 2-2.5 miles over terrain that builds toward the high point of the day.

Once you reach a flat spot on top of the sticky Navajo Sandstone, you stop and practice yoga and meditation for about an hour. This is where the views open up: Zion National Park, the Pine Valley Mountains, or the candy cane striped cliffs, depending on where the guide has led you. The yoga is all levels, so whether you've been practicing for years or this is your first time, the instructor meets you where you are. You'll also have time for journaling during this part, and the guide takes photos of you and your group to keep afterward.

The group then walks back to the starting point. The whole experience runs three to four hours. In summer, sunrise or sunset departures make the best use of the light and the heat. Contact the operator if you're unsure which timing suits your trip.

Is this one for you?The hike and yoga are both moderate in pace (you're walking 2-2.5 miles over a few hours with stops to learn and observe, not rushing), so this works for anyone who wants to move through the landscape without intensity. If you have a free morning or afternoon and want to combine some physical activity with a guided look at the desert ecosystem and a meditation moment, this fits that opening in your trip.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (2 to 17 years).

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

How difficult is the 2-2.5 mile hike in Snow Canyon?

The hike is suitable for all physical fitness levels. You're moving through a desert ecosystem at a pace set by the guide, with stops to learn about the area, so it's not a speed event. The terrain is red rock and desert ground, and the elevation gain builds toward the yoga spot on the Navajo Sandstone.

What should I bring or wear for a yoga and hike in the desert?

Wear comfortable hiking and yoga clothes suited to the season and time of day. The guide provides a yoga mat for the practice session. Bring water and sun protection appropriate for the desert. The operator can advise on what works best for your departure time.

What are the views like from the top where you do yoga?

From the flat spot on the Navajo Sandstone, you see Zion National Park, the Pine Valley Mountains, or the distinctive candy cane striped cliffs, depending on which route the guide takes. These views frame the yoga and meditation practice.

Is this better at sunrise or sunset?

In summer, both sunrise and sunset departures work well and avoid the heat of midday. Sunrise offers a quieter start to the day. Sunset gives you the light and color of the end of the day. Contact the operator to discuss which fits your schedule and preferences.
