The experience

Headsets go on inside the Capitol Rotunda, and suddenly the dome above you isn't just architecture. It's the space where Congress has convened for over two centuries. The guide walks you through the Crypt, originally built to hold George Washington's remains, then into National Statuary Hall, where all fifty states have sent a statue. You'll see the Old Supreme Court Chamber or Old Senate Chamber depending on what's open that day, rooms that hold the weight of early American political history in their proportions alone. The whole Capitol interior tour moves at a steady pace, with security screening at the start and a short orientation film before the official guided portion begins.

After the Capitol, you're escorted through a tunnel to the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building: the part most visitors never reach without timed-entry passes, which are included. The Great Hall stops you cold: Italian Renaissance-style marble columns, gold leaf, mosaics, and murals that took years to complete. The Gutenberg Bible sits in a case here, one of only three perfect vellum copies in existence.
