The Experience
The drive from Phoenix to Arizona wine country takes about 30 minutes, and you'll spend it in an air-conditioned Mercedes Sprinter or Ford Transit with water and snacks already on board. Your guide handles the route, the timing and the introductions at each stop, so the day unfolds without you managing logistics. At Alcantara Vineyards, you'll sit overlooking 20,000 vines, the Verde River and the grass picnic area where bald eagles sometimes pass overhead; one wine tasting flight per person is included, and the menu lets you choose which varietals to sample from their 17 options. The tasting room staff will confirm your ID at the door.
Lunch happens at Merkin Vineyards Tasting Room, an Italian wine bar where one entrée and one wine tasting flight come with the tour. The kitchen uses vegetables and herbs from Merkin's own Verde Valley greenhouses and orchards, and all pasta and bread are made from scratch — the menu shifts weekly depending on what's in season. The tasting room is vegetarian-friendly and handles vegan and gluten-free requests, though as a popular spot it can have a short wait even with your reservation held.
The third stop is Oak Creek or Javelina Leap Vineyards depending on availability that day; you'll get the wine tasting flight menu when you arrive and can sit inside or outside. After that final tasting, the drive back to your original pickup location takes roughly 30 minutes. Weekends tend to be busy at the final stop, so the timing is built around that reality.

What's the difference between a wine tasting flight and just ordering a glass?
A wine tasting flight is a curated row of smaller pours — typically three to five samples per stop — chosen to let you compare different varietals or styles side by side. At Alcantara and the other stops on this tour, you choose which flight menu appeals to you, so you're not locked into one preset selection.
Can I pick which wineries we visit, or is the route fixed?
The third stop rotates between Oak Creek and Javelina Leap Vineyards depending on availability, but Alcantara and Merkin are set stops. Your guide can discuss the route when you book, and the private format means your group's preferences shape how much time you spend at each location.
What happens if someone in my group doesn't drink wine?
Everyone in your party must be 21 with valid ID, but the tour includes lunch at Merkin Vineyards and the experience of the vineyards and tasting rooms themselves. Water and snacks are provided throughout, and you're welcome to skip wine tastings and enjoy the surroundings instead.
How far is Verde Valley from Sedona?
Verde Valley is south of Sedona, and the drive from Phoenix to wine country is approximately 30 minutes. Your guide picks you up from your location in the Phoenix area and handles all transportation, so you don't need to navigate or drive.
Is this tour wheelchair accessible?
Yes — the vehicle is wheelchair accessible, all areas and surfaces at the stops are accessible, and service animals are allowed. Let the operator know about accessibility needs when you book so they can confirm details with each winery.
What's included in the price, and what costs extra?
The tour includes private transportation in a luxury vehicle, three wine tasting flights per person, lunch with one entrée, water, snacks, and a COVID safety kit. Wine purchases beyond the included tastings are optional and paid separately at each stop.
