Step-by-step itinerary
Off-road drive and sequoia hike
- Travel forested dirt paths
- Cross creeks and spot wildlife
- Arrive at sequoia grove
- Hike 1.8-mile round trip
- See Giant Sequoia Trees
The experience
You start at the shop before climbing into a Jeep for the drive into Yosemite's backcountry. The 75-minute route follows forested dirt paths and old logging roads dating back to the 1800s, passing through dense forest, granite plains, and creeks you'll actually cross. Your guide drives while you sit back and watch for wildlife. The terrain is rugged enough that you'll feel the off-road experience without having to navigate it yourself.
Once you reach the sequoia grove, you leave the Jeep behind and hike roughly a mile round trip with your guide to stand in front of the giant sequoia trees: the largest trees in the world. This is the part where the scale hits: these aren't tall trees, they're trees so massive that photographs don't quite prepare you for them. The hike is the centerpiece, and the Jeep ride is what gets you there through terrain a regular car cannot handle.
The whole outing takes 4.5 hours. All taxes and fees are included. Your experienced driver and guide are part of the booking. The tour runs rain or shine, so dress for the weather. Note that international visitors may owe an additional National Park entrance fee collected on arrival, separate from the tour price.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What are the giant sequoia trees like when you get there?
The giant sequoias are the largest trees in the world by volume. You hike roughly a mile round trip to see them up close after the Jeep portion of the tour ends, and the scale of these trees is the reason the hike exists: photographs don't capture how massive they are in person.
Do I have to drive the Jeep myself, or does the guide do it?
Your experienced guide drives the Jeep the entire way. You sit as a passenger while they navigate the rugged terrain, historic logging roads, and creek crossings over the 75-minute drive to the sequoia grove.
How much of this tour is hiking versus driving?
The Jeep portion is 75 minutes of driving on rough terrain and old logging roads. Once you arrive at the sequoia grove, you hike roughly a mile round trip with your guide to see the giant trees. The total tour is 4.5 hours.
Will I see wildlife on this tour?
The route passes through forest, granite plains, and creeks where wildlife sightings are possible, though they are not guaranteed. Your guide will point out opportunities to look for animals as you drive through the Sierra Mountains.
Is this tour suitable if I have mobility concerns?
The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The hike to the giant sequoias is roughly a mile round trip. The tour is not recommended for participants with back problems, heart conditions, or other serious medical conditions due to the rough terrain of the Jeep drive.
