The experience

This is a boat dive for experienced certified divers only. The operator emphasizes that if you're unsure what "experienced" means, call them directly before booking through a third party. Groups stay at six or fewer, which is the whole point: the Ho'onui is built for comfort and stability on the water, and the small cap keeps the underwater experience relaxed instead of crowded. You'll make two dives at different reef sites, each one chosen from more than thirteen options along Kauai's sunny south shore.

The boat leaves from the harbor and reaches the first site in minutes. You'll descend into warm water and encounter dramatic lava formations, coral gardens, underwater caverns, and the fish and eels that live in them, plus honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) if the day aligns. Between dives, the crew shares briefings on marine ecology and the volcanic geology that shaped these reefs, so you understand what you're looking at. Bottled water and snacks are on board. All scuba equipment is included, with no rental charge.

The whole outing runs four hours. Detailed site briefings happen before you enter the water, so you know what to expect and where the guide will lead. The dive sites themselves are less traveled than the usual spots, which is what makes them worth the boat ride.
