Pilot an underwater scooter to dive sites most divers never reach

A four-hour scooter dive for advance-certified divers on Kauai, limited to groups of four or fewer, using state-of-the-art TUSA diver propulsion vehicles to reach reef sites like Sheraton Caverns. You pilot the scooter yourself, gliding up to four miles per hour over reefs and through cavern systems while a guide shares marine ecology and Hawaiian legends tied to the sites.

The experience

You arrive at the dive site already on the water, not queasy from a boat ride. The scooters are top-of-the-line TUSA DPVs with handles and a saddle, built so you control the pace and the line: push forward or let it pull you, depending on how you want to ride. One push of the accelerator and the reef opens up in a way legs alone cannot reach. You'll soar over the reefs toward sites like Sheraton Caverns, where you tie up the scooter and swim through the cavern system itself. The guide briefs you on the marine ecology and the species you'll encounter, plus the Hawaiian legends and lore connected to the place.

The whole experience runs four hours and stays intimate: groups max out at four divers, so you're not herding through a lineup. All scuba equipment is included, along with bottled water and snacks. The guide speaks English or Spanish and knows the site, the habitat, and the stories. If motion sickness has kept you off dive boats before, this changes that. You're already at the site and moving under your own power, not fighting the boat's motion.

What’s included

  • Guided experience with a live guide in English or Spanish.
  • detailed marine ecology and site briefing.
  • all scuba equipment.

Is this one for you?Four hours is the full commitment, with no hotel pickup or drop-off included, so you'll need to arrange your own transport to the dive site. If you're a certified diver with a free afternoon and motion sickness has kept you off traditional dive boats, this scooter format solves that problem while letting you reach reef sites most divers never access.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What is a diver propulsion vehicle and how do I operate it?

A TUSA DPV is an underwater scooter that propels you up to four miles per hour. It has handles and a saddle so you can control whether it pulls or pushes you, and you steer it like any handheld device. The guide will brief you on operation before you enter the water.

Do I need to be an advanced diver to book this?

Yes, this dive requires advance certification. The scooter lets you cover more distance and reach deeper or more remote reef sites than a standard dive, so the operator limits it to divers with that training.

What is Sheraton Caverns like underwater?

Sheraton Caverns is a reef site where you can tie up the scooter and swim through a cavern system. The guide will brief you on what to expect and the marine life and geology you'll encounter there.

Will I get seasick on the boat ride to the dive site?

The dive sites are boat-accessible, but you board already at the site, so you skip the motion of traveling by boat. If motion sickness has been a barrier to diving before, this format removes that problem.

What does the guide teach during the dive?

The guide shares detailed marine ecology and site briefings so you understand the habitat and species. They also share Hawaiian legends, myths and lore connected to the sites and the ocean.
