The experience

The tour starts with a drive up Mulholland Drive, where the city and Los Angeles basin spread out below from high in the Hollywood Hills. From there you stop at the best vantage point to photograph the Hollywood Sign without climbing the mountain: a single, unobstructed view that most visitors never find on their own. The guide stops next at the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, where you walk past the brass stars embedded in the pavement and see the handprints and footprints outside the Chinese Theatre, a brief stretch on foot to take in the street itself.

The Sunset Strip comes next, a slow drive down the famous boulevard past landmarks that line both sides: the Rock Walk, the Comedy Store, Chateau Marmont, the Viper Room, the Roxy Theater, and the Beverly Hills Hotel among them. The guide points out what each place is and why it matters to the city's music and entertainment history.
