The Experience

We started winding up the road to Griffith Observatory just as the city was shaking off its morning haze — you could smell eucalyptus somewhere, or maybe that was just my imagination. Lunch happened at the Original Farmers Market near The Grove — I grabbed tacos while my partner went for some wild-looking donuts. The mix of smells (grilled meat, sweet stuff, coffee) stuck to my clothes for hours after.

Beverly Hills felt almost too perfect; palm trees lined up like they’re auditioning for a commercial. Walking Rodeo Drive made me laugh — I tried to pronounce “Bottega Veneta” and Carlos just grinned politely (I definitely butchered it). Then we cruised toward Santa Monica and Venice Beach. The light changed as we got closer to the ocean — everything looked softer somehow. We wandered along 3rd Street Promenade and then hit Venice Beach where skateboarders zipped past and someone played old soul music from a speaker buried in sand.

By late afternoon I was tired but didn’t want it to end yet — there’s something about seeing so many sides of Los Angeles in one day that leaves you buzzing and kind of thoughtful at the same time. Still think about that view from Griffith when things get noisy back home.
