Two summits, five days, one guide who knows the route

A 5-day guided backpacking trek in Yosemite National Park where you summit Half Dome and Cloud's Rest from established backcountry camps, with a professional guide leading the route, all meals cooked on-site, and rental gear (tents, bear canister, trekking poles) provided or available to borrow. The itinerary is fixed across the five days; you choose your departure date from the available options.

The Experience

Day one starts at Curry Village in Yosemite Valley, where you and your guide go through your pack, sort gear, and walk a few local spots before heading to camp. Day two takes you to the trailhead by shuttle, then up toward Cathedral Lakes and Cathedral Peak — a popular climb that sits above river meadows and high alpine terrain. Day three continues to Sunrise Lakes for a swim and a look at the geology, then you move camp and plan the Half Dome summit bid. Day four is the early push to Half Dome's summit via the cables (weather permitting), with a light pack and views from the top before the descent back to camp. Day five brings you down the Mist Trail into the valley for a celebratory pizza.

Cloud's Rest sits at 9,934 feet and comes on day three — a full summit push from camp with the descent to Sunrise Creek. The guide handles the route, timing and camp logistics; you handle the hiking. All meals are cooked on-site (breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and snacks included), and the guide provides expert instruction on backcountry skills, weather reading and summit strategy. Permits and day-use reservations are arranged before you arrive.

Gear is the big difference here: tents, bear canister, trekking poles and other major items are provided or available to borrow, so you only need to bring personal clothing, layers and a backpack. The guide is English-speaking and stays with the group throughout. Pre-trip support includes an email and phone call with your guide to confirm fitness level, gear fit and any questions before the trek begins. You'll also get a one-of-a-kind hoodie with a map of your route printed on it.

Top questions

What's the fitness level needed for a 5-day Half Dome and Cloud's Rest trek?

The trek requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. You'll be hiking at altitude with a loaded pack, summiting two peaks, and camping in the backcountry for four nights. The guide will discuss your fitness and experience during the pre-trip phone call to make sure the pace and terrain match your ability.

Do I need to bring my own backpack and trekking poles?

Trekking poles and most major gear (tents, bear canister, sleeping bags) are provided or available to borrow. You'll need to bring your own backpack, personal clothing and layers appropriate for high-altitude weather. The guide sends a detailed gear list before the trip so you know exactly what to pack.

What happens if weather prevents a summit attempt on Half Dome or Cloud's Rest?

Half Dome and Cloud's Rest summits are weather-dependent. The guide makes the call each morning based on conditions and safety. If weather blocks a summit, the itinerary adjusts to keep the group safe while still making the most of the five days in the backcountry.

Are meals included, and what if I have dietary restrictions?

All meals — breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and snacks — are cooked on-site and included. Mention any dietary restrictions during the pre-trip call with your guide so meals can be planned accordingly.

How do I get to Curry Village to meet the guide on day one?

You arrange your own transport to Curry Village in Yosemite Valley, where the trek begins. Public transportation options are available nearby if you're not driving. The guide will provide specific meeting details and timing during pre-trip communication.

What's included in the pre-trip support?

Pre-trip support includes an email and phone call with your guide to confirm your fitness level, go over the gear list, answer questions and make sure you're ready for the five days ahead. You'll also receive travel advice for before and after the trek.
