The experience

Your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel and takes you around the island on your own timeline. Mountain Top comes first, a high vantage point where you can see Magen's Bay and the islands beyond, with a shop and the island's famous Banana Daiquiris on hand. Drake's Seat follows: the bench where the explorer watched for Spanish ships, now offering a closer view of Magen's Bay and a spot for photos.

The tour swings to the Caribbean side, where your guide points out Charlotte Amalie and the two islands in the harbor that serve as cruise ship ports. In the capital itself, you have time to explore on your own: the 99 Steps, Blackbeard's Castle, Fort Christian, the Emancipation Garden, Main Street and Vendors Plaza are all within reach. A local restaurant lunch is an option here if you want to eat. The castle stop includes the Three Queens' monument and the tower. You can hike the steps or simply photograph them.
