The experience

The day starts with a stop at Drake's Seat, where the view opens over Megan's Bay: one of the world's top ten beaches, though you're looking down at it, not in it yet. From there the Jeep climbs to Mountain Top, the highest point in the Virgin Islands, where the air clears and the whole island spreads below. This is where the world-famous banana daiquiri happens, and where the souvenir shops are, so the stop has a rhythm built in: drink, shoot photos, browse, then back to the vehicle.

The third stop is downtown Charlotte Amalie, the capital. The guide takes the Jeep through the old streets where buildings have stood since the late 1600s: Fort Christian, the 99 Steps, and the second-oldest synagogue in the Northern Hemisphere are all walkable from where you stop. This is the historical anchor of the day, and it breaks up the landscape-and-water rhythm with something built by hand centuries ago.
