Step-by-step itinerary

Visit MACA and Casapueblo museums

  • Pickup from hotel
  • Explore MACA contemporary art museum
  • Visit sculpture park at MACA
  • Travel to Casapueblo
  • Tour Casapueblo museum and gallery
  • Enjoy ocean views at Casapueblo

The experience

Your driver picks you up from your hotel and takes you first to MACA, set within a natural landscape where contemporary architecture, sculpture gardens and rotating exhibitions of Uruguayan and international art sit together. You have time to walk the grounds and move through the galleries at your own pace. The museum is designed around the idea that art and nature belong in the same space, so the park itself is part of what you're seeing.

From there you continue to Casapueblo, perched on the cliffs above the Atlantic. It's the work of a single artist, Carlos Páez Vilaró, and the building itself (whitewashed, organic, unlike anything else) is as much the draw as the art inside. You wander through rooms that mix his life, his work and the views out toward the ocean. The panoramic sight lines from the clifftop are what made this place one of Punta del Este's landmarks.

Entry to both museums and the air-conditioned transport between them are included. Your driver remains available throughout, so there's no waiting for a group or timing your visit around a scheduled departure.

Who was Carlos Páez Vilaró and why is Casapueblo famous?

Carlos Páez Vilaró was a renowned Uruguayan artist, and Casapueblo is his architectural masterpiece: a whitewashed clifftop building perched above the Atlantic that functions as both his former home and a museum of his work, and it's become one of Uruguay's most recognizable landmarks.
