The Experience

“You’ll want to see this,” our guide Khalid said, waving us over as we stepped off the minibus at the Last Exit. I was still half-asleep from the early Dubai pickup, but the smell of cardamom coffee and fried dough snapped me awake. The place felt like a quirky movie set—retro signs, food trucks painted in wild colors, everyone grabbing snacks for the road. Khalid laughed when I tried to order in Arabic (I definitely butchered it), but he gave me a thumbs up anyway. That little pit stop made Yas Island feel closer somehow—just a blur of rollercoasters and sunshine as we drove by.

The first real “wow” hit at Louvre Abu Dhabi. We didn’t go inside (photo stop only), but honestly, just seeing that dome floating above the water was enough. The light was weirdly soft—almost blue—and you could hear gulls squabbling somewhere out by the sea. And then there’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. You hear about it everywhere but nothing prepares you for stepping barefoot onto those cool white tiles. The silence inside felt heavy—in a comforting way? When we left, my feet were cold and my head felt full in a good way. The drive back to Dubai was quiet; nobody really needed to talk after all that.
