The Experience

The first thing that hit me stepping out of the van was the quiet—just a soft hum from the city as we walked up to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Our guide, Samir, pointed out the marble inlay work and told us it took over a decade to finish. Inside, you can actually feel how cool the floors stay even when it’s blazing outside. The main prayer hall is huge—felt like you could get lost in there if you wandered off. I noticed a faint scent of oud drifting through the air; someone nearby must’ve just finished prayers.

Afterwards, we swung by the dates market. Never thought I’d see so many kinds—Ajwa, Medjool, even some stuffed with candied orange peel. The vendors let us try a few before buying (the sticky fingers are worth it). Quick photo stop at the Corniche—the sea breeze was a relief after all that sun. You get this wide view of glass towers on one side and blue water on the other.

The Heritage Village felt like stepping into another time. There were women weaving baskets under palm huts and a guy hammering copper pots—he winked at us when he caught me watching. Lunch was at Marina Mall; nothing fancy but their shawarma wrap hit the spot. We drove past Etihad Towers—five glass towers that look almost futuristic—and then stopped for a peek at Emirates Palace. Gold everywhere, even on the cappuccino if you want to splurge.

Last stop: Ferrari World. The place is massive—you hear screams from Formula Rossa before you even see it. I’m not much for roller coasters but couldn’t skip it (my stomach still remembers). There’s stuff for kids too, plus car displays that made my uncle jealous when I sent him photos. We left with tired feet and more photos than I know what to do with.
