The experience
The tour runs between 8 and 15 hours depending on your departure point. If you're based in Istanbul, the operator picks you up from your hotel, drives you to the airport, and books your round-trip flight to Denizli, so you'll need to provide your passport details at least 48 hours ahead. Your guide meets you at the arrival gate and drives you straight to Salda Lake, where the water's high magnesium sulphate content creates different shades of blue against white sand. The lake sits surrounded by mountains with only one village nearby, which keeps it clean. Bring sandals for the gravelly shore and a camera.
After Salda Lake, you stop for lunch at a local restaurant, then visit a traditional handcraft workshop to learn about the special stones and metals of the region. The afternoon centers on Pamukkale Natural Park and Hierapolis Ancient City above it. Your guide walks you through the Roman highlights (the baths, Domitian Gate, Frontinus Street, the Theater, Plutonium, and Apollon Temple), and points out the best photo spots overlooking the white travertines. Entry to Hierapolis is free with your park ticket.
You get 60 to 75 minutes of free time to explore Pamukkale's thermal pools on your own and swim in the white travertine waters. The Cleopatra Pools sit at the top, fed by the same hot springs. The water there is clear and warm, unlike the milky white of the lower pools. At the end of the day, you're dropped back at your hotel in Pamukkale or Karahayit, or transferred to Denizli airport for your return flight to Istanbul if you booked the Istanbul option.

What is Salda Lake like when I get there?
Salda Lake is surrounded by mountains with white sand shores and water in different shades of blue, rich in magnesium sulphate. The lake is very clean because only one village sits nearby. The sand is gravelly, so sandals are recommended, and it's worth bringing a camera for the scenery.

What happens if I book from Istanbul? Do I have to fly?
Yes, the Istanbul option includes round-trip domestic flights between Istanbul and Denizli, plus hotel pickup and airport transfers. You'll need to provide your passport details at least 48 hours before departure so the operator can book your flights. If you start from a hotel in Pamukkale or Karahayit instead, there are no flights.
What's included in the lunch?
