The experience
The tour starts with hotel pickup in Istanbul and a flight to Denizli, where your guide meets you at the airport. From there, the drive takes you to Pamukkale Natural Park, where the white travertine terraces rise in layers down the mountainside. Your guide leads you through Hierapolis, the ancient city built on the plateau above the pools, pointing out the Roman baths, the Domitian Gate, the theater, and the temple of Apollo that once overlooked the Antique Pool: the clear, warm water where Cleopatra is said to have bathed.
After the guided portion, you get about an hour to swim in the thermal pools themselves. The white travertine pools at the lower level are free to enter with your park ticket. If you want to bathe in the Antique Pool's clearer water, that's a separate modern spa facility on the upper terrace. The pools are fed by the same hot springs that have flowed here for millennia. Lunch follows at a local restaurant, then you'll visit a workshop where artisans demonstrate traditional handcraft techniques and explain the special stones and metals of the region.
The tour also includes Laodicea, an ancient city that flourished from the 4th to 6th centuries and was numbered among the Seven Churches of Revelation. At the end of the day, you're either dropped back at your hotel in Pamukkale or Karahayit, or transferred to Denizli airport for your return flight to Istanbul, depending on which option you booked. The whole experience runs between 7 and 15 hours depending on your departure point and flight times.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 6).
Can I book this tour if I'm staying in Pamukkale instead of Istanbul?
Yes. You can choose the "from-to Pamukkale Hotels" option, and your guide will meet you at your hotel reception instead of arranging flights. This shortens the day considerably since you skip the airport transfers and flights.
What exactly is the Antique Pool, and is it different from the white travertine pools?
The Antique Pool sits on the upper terrace above the main white pools and is fed by the same hot springs, but the water stays clear instead of white because of how it flows. It's a modern spa facility built on the site of a Roman temple to Apollo, and you can bathe there, though entry is separate from the main park ticket.
How much free time do I get to swim in the thermal pools?
You have about 60 to 75 minutes of free time to explore the natural pools and swim in the white travertines after the guided tour of Hierapolis ends.
Is lunch included, and can I request vegetarian food?
Lunch at a local restaurant is included. Vegetarian options are available. Just let the operator know your dietary requirements when you book.
What's included in the "from-to Istanbul Hotels" option?
This option includes round-trip domestic flights between Istanbul and Denizli, hotel pickup in Istanbul, airport transfers, the guide, the tour, lunch, and drop-off back at your Istanbul hotel. You'll need to provide your passport details so the operator can book your flights at least 48 hours before departure.
