The Experience

The day starts with your guide and an air-conditioned vehicle picking you up, then moves through Cappadocia's signature landscapes. Uchisar Castle sits at the highest point of the region, carved from natural rock and offering views across the valleys below. From there you walk into Zelve Open Air Museum, a former cave city where churches, houses and monastic settlements are cut into the stone, some still holding frescoes from early Christian times. Pasabag's fairy chimneys—the cone-shaped rock formations the region is known for—come next, followed by Devrent Valley, where the rocks are shaped by erosion alone and visitors pick out animal shapes in the formations.

A pottery workshop sits in the middle of the day, where you can watch local craftspeople work and try shaping clay yourself if you want to. Lunch is a traditional meal with mezzes, salad and a main course at a local restaurant. The afternoon takes you through Pigeon Valley, a hiking route along cliffs where ancient pigeon houses are carved into the rock face, and down into Kaymaklı Underground City, one of the largest in the region, carved into tufa stone and reflecting centuries of settlement below ground.

The tour runs about 7.5 hours total. Your guide speaks English and can arrange other languages if you select that option at checkout. Children from age 1 are welcome, and infants can sit on an adult's lap or travel in a stroller. The vehicle is air-conditioned throughout, and the pace is flexible—your guide adjusts the stops and time spent at each site based on what interests you.
