The Experience

The day starts at Uçhisar Castle, where you stand on high ground and photograph the fairy chimneys, valleys and rock formations that stretch across the Cappadocia landscape. From there the route moves to Pigeon Valley, a quieter site where dovecotes are carved directly into the volcanic rock — the guide explains how pigeon keeping shaped local agriculture for centuries. The scale shifts when you reach Kaymaklı Underground City, a network of tunnels and chambers that once sheltered thousands of people; you walk through the passages and see how the space was organized across multiple levels.

After the underground city, the group stops in Avanos for lunch (included if you chose that option at checkout). The town sits on the Kızılırmak River and is known for pottery — after eating, you move to a workshop where you work with clay at a wheel and make something to take with you. This is not a demonstration; you handle the material and shape it yourself.

The afternoon covers two more stops. Zelve Open-Air Museum shows rock-cut homes and churches from an ancient settlement, and the guide walks you through the structures and their history. The tour ends at Paşabağ Monks Valley, where the fairy chimneys rise in their most distinctive form — the guide shares the legends and geology behind the formations.
