The experience

The day starts with hotel pickup and a drive to Uchisar Castle, the highest point in Cappadocia, where a 360-degree panorama unfolds from the summit: fairy chimneys, valleys and rock formations spread below. From there the route moves through Devrent Valley, known for its camel-shaped rock formations and the human and animal figures that earned it the nickname "Imagination Valley," then into Pigeon Valley with its centuries-old dovecotes carved into the cliffs and walking paths between the formations.

A pottery workshop comes next, where you watch artisans at work on the wheel and can try shaping clay yourself if you want to. The afternoon takes you to Paşabağ, the multi-headed fairy chimneys where monks once lived in rock-cut cells, and then to Zelve Open-Air Museum: a sprawl of ancient cave dwellings, churches and monasteries built into the stone. Göreme Panorama, one of the best viewpoints in the region, gives you a final vantage point over the landscape, especially striking at sunset when hot air balloons drift across the sky.
