The Experience
You're picked up from your Istanbul hotel at 6:30 AM on day one and driven to Gallipoli, arriving by noon for lunch in Eceabat. The afternoon is spent walking the peninsula's battlefields and trenches—the ANZAC and Ottoman positions, memorials, and the stories of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's command during the 1915 campaign. That evening you're in Canakkale with time to explore. Day two starts at 8:30 AM with Troy: you walk through nine layers of ancient city, see the 3,700-year-old walls, the Odeon, the Bouleuterion and a life-size Trojan Horse you can enter. By 10:30 AM you're on to Pergamon, arriving at 1:30 PM after lunch. There you tour the Acropolis, the Library, temples of Athena and Trajan, the Altar of Zeus, the Gymnasium and Hellenistic Theater before heading to Kusadasi.
Day three is Pamukkale. After breakfast you drive three hours to the white travertine terraces, stopping for lunch in town. A guide shows you Hierapolis—the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Theater, the Martyrion of St. Philip—then you have free time to swim in Cleopatra's Pool and explore the travertines before returning to Kusadasi at 4 PM. Day four takes you to Ephesus at 9 AM: the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders), the Amphitheater, the Celsius Library and the House of the Virgin Mary. After the tour you're transferred to Izmir airport for a one-hour flight to Cappadocia, where you're met and taken to your cave hotel.
Days five and six stay in Cappadocia. The south tour (day five, 9:30 AM pickup) descends into Derinkuyu Underground City, walks the Ilhara Valley with lunch by the river, visits Selime Monastery and Pigeon Valley for views. Day six heads north: you see Uchisar Castle from a vista point overlooking Goreme, tour the Goreme Open Air Museum, stop in Avanos for lunch and a pottery demonstration where you try the kick wheel yourself, then pass through Cavusin, Devrent's animal-shaped rocks and the fairy chimneys of St. Monk's Valley and St. Simeon's monk cell. At 6 PM you're driven to the airport for your flight back to Istanbul, where you're met and transferred to your hotel.
