The experience

You start at 1 PM from the pier and head out by longtail to three islands in the Andaman Sea. The boat takes you first to Lading Island, where the beach opens onto shallow water; then to Pakbia, known for its calm atmosphere; and finally into Koh Hong Lagoon itself. Hong means "room" in Thai, and the lagoon sits inside a ring of limestone cliffs that rise straight from the water. You navigate into it by boat and then slip into the water to snorkel among the rock formations and fish.

At each stop you have time to swim, snorkel with the equipment provided, sunbathe on the sand or walk along the beach. The life jacket is included, and your guide speaks English and knows where the fish are. Around 5 PM the longtail brings you back to the starting pier, so the whole outing runs about four hours from start to finish.
