You’ll ride through Phuket’s countryside with an experienced guide, see local plantations and sea views from Big Buddha hill—even if you’ve never ridden before. It’s relaxed, scenic, and gives you a real taste of rural Phuket life.
The first thing I noticed was the soft clop of hooves as we left the stable—nothing but the sound of birds and a faint breeze rustling through the rubber trees. Our instructor, Lek, gave us a quick rundown on how to hold the reins and what to expect. Honestly, I’d never been on a horse before, but Lek’s calm voice made it feel easy.
The trail wound up along Big Buddha hill, sometimes shaded by tall rubber trees, sometimes opening up to flashes of sunlight and glimpses of Chalong Bay down below. There was this moment when we passed a small fruit orchard—couldn’t help but catch a whiff of ripe guava in the air. Every so often, you could spot locals tending their crops or hear a rooster somewhere off in the distance.
We paused for a second at the top of the hill. The view stretched out over Bang Wad Reservoir and Dam—honestly, it’s one of those spots you’d miss if you weren’t on horseback. The ride back down felt easier; maybe I was just getting used to the gentle sway of the horse beneath me. Back at the stable, Lek handed out cold bottled water—a small thing, but after an hour in Phuket’s sun, it hit the spot.
