The Experience

We were already ankle-deep in muddy grass when our guide, Pim, handed us baskets of bananas. The elephants at E-Co Adventure Elephant Camp are massive up close — you feel their breath before you see their eyes. I was a little nervous (okay, a lot), but Pim just grinned and said, “They like slow hands.” So I tried to copy her calm way of moving. One elephant’s trunk brushed my arm — rougher than I expected — and I swear I could smell sweet hay and earth mixed together. Feeding them felt almost too simple for how much it meant.
