The experience
Can you fit five different Zanzibar experiences into a single day? This tour stacks them: you start in the water at Mnemba Island, off the northeast coast, where the coral reefs and colorful fish are the draw for snorkeling. The waters are clear enough that the reef structure and marine life are visible without much depth, and the snorkeling gear is provided. From there the day moves to Baraka Aquarium, where you can feed and swim with sea turtles in a natural lagoon setting: a family-friendly stop with educational notes on marine conservation.
The forest and cave segments come next. Jozani Forest, Zanzibar's largest reserve, is where the rare red colobus monkeys live. A guided walk takes you through the mangroves and tropical growth to spot them and learn about the ecosystem. Kuza Cave is a limestone cavern with an underground lagoon of fresh, cool water. You swim there and see the stalactites and stalagmites overhead. The cave also carries cultural history, and the guide will explain it. By late afternoon you're at The Rock Restaurant, a seafood meal served on an actual rock in the Indian Ocean, with the view as part of the package.
The whole route runs 10 hours and moves by air-conditioned vehicle between stops. A live guide travels with the group and speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or German. Pick the language at checkout. Pickup from your Zanzibar hotel is included, as is all entry fees and the snorkeling equipment. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available.
