The experience
The tour starts in the streets of Sinoni and moves through the neighborhood on foot, stopping at urban farming spaces where locals grow bananas, papaya, avocado, cassava and spinach between houses. You'll see traditional mud homes, watch women engaged in daily routines like cooking and childcare, and observe carpenters handcrafting furniture and locals milling maize by hand. The guide, someone from the community itself, explains how people recycle materials, adapt to city life, and maintain traditions while navigating modern routines.
Food is woven through the walk. You taste cassava and chips mayai (eggs and potatoes fried together) straight from local vendors, eating what the neighborhood eats. The guide shares stories behind these routines and introduces you to community members as you move through the streets. Churches that anchor the spiritual life of the area come into view, and the walk gives you time to ask questions and understand how daily life actually works here, not how it looks from a distance.
The guides work for a local NGO, and 100% of the tour profits go directly to the organization's programs: education for disadvantaged children, women's empowerment, and youth development. Your booking funds the work happening in the community you're walking through.
