Step-by-step itinerary

Community tour and outreach in Arusha

  • Explore Likamba's local secondary school
  • Engage in educational talk and distribute hygiene pads
  • Visit Lifted Strong community homes
  • Meet local families and experience culture
  • Join empowering classes at Lifted Strong center
  • Hear inspiring stories from young women

The experience

The tour starts in Arusha's streets and moves through the neighborhoods where Lifted Strong operates. You'll visit Likamba's local secondary school, where you join an educational talk on health and self-esteem alongside the students, then hand out hygiene pads: a direct part of the outreach work. This is not watching a demonstration. You're doing the distribution yourself, which means the students meet you and you see the moment it lands.

After the school, you move into a community home visit where local families share their stories. The focus here is genuine connection: you'll meet the people, experience how they live, and understand how visits like yours support women and girls in the area. Then you spend time at the Lifted Strong center itself, hearing from young women in the program about the classes and the work they're doing to break out of poverty. The whole arc (school, homes, center) is built around seeing the organization's reach, not just hearing about it.

Lifted Strong staff handle all transport in a private vehicle, so you move between stops without arranging anything. Snacks are included. The guide speaks English throughout, and the pace is built into a four-hour window, which means you're done by early afternoon.

Top questions

What exactly do I do at the secondary school?

You join an educational talk on health and self-esteem with the students, then distribute hygiene pads to them as part of the outreach. You're not observing. You're participating in the handout itself.

Do I need to speak Swahili or any language other than English?

The guide speaks English throughout the tour. Local families you visit may speak Swahili, but the guide translates and facilitates the conversations.

What is the Lifted Strong center, and how much time do I spend there?

Lifted Strong is a local non-profit that runs empowerment classes and programs for young women. You'll spend part of the four hours at their center, where you hear directly from participants about their work and the impact of the organization.

How does the home visit work? Do I go inside people's houses?

Yes, you visit local homes as part of the tour. The visit is designed around genuine connection: meeting families, hearing their stories, and understanding how the community benefits from Lifted Strong's programs.

Is lunch included, or just snacks?

Snacks are included in the tour. The description mentions a delicious lunch as part of the experience, so a meal is part of the day, though the exact timing and details depend on the day's flow.
