The experience
What makes this parasailing different is where you take off: from Birg at 2,700 meters on the rim of Lauterbrunnen Valley, looking down at the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks. You start at Stechelberg and take the cable car up, then hike 10 minutes to the takeoff point. A licensed pilot briefs you in English, Spanish, German or Polish, gets you ready in about 5 minutes, and you launch into the air together in a tandem harness.
The flight itself passes over three named stops: Gimmelwald, Mürren and Trummelbach Waterfalls, before you land back in Stechelberg. The whole experience runs about two hours from start to finish. The operator switches takeoff locations between seasons (Birg in summer, Schilgrat in winter) to work with the weather and wind conditions.
Tandem gear and a camera are included. The camera captures your flight so you have footage to take home. Third-party and accident insurance cover you throughout. If you weigh over 90 kg, you'll need to book one of the set departure times (11:20 am, 1:20 pm or 3:20 pm) for safety reasons. Children from age 6 can fly, and the operator says the activity suits all fitness levels, though pregnancy is not recommended.

Is this one for you?The hike to the takeoff is short and the setup quick, so the main effort is the flight itself. If you're comfortable being airborne in a harness with a pilot, the rest is straightforward. Book one of the set times if you weigh over 90 kg, as those slots are required for safety.
