You'll Launch from a Mountain and Land in Town

You'll be driven to Beatenberg, complete a safety briefing, then fly tandem with a professional pilot for 10–20 minutes over the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks and both lakes. The landing happens in central Interlaken, and transport back is included. The whole experience runs 1.5 hours door-to-door.

Step-by-step itinerary

Paragliding flight from Beatenberg to Interlaken

  • Drive to Beatenberg mountain
  • Receive full safety briefing
  • Strap into tandem glider
  • Fly down with paragliding pilot
  • Enjoy views of Jungfrau and lakes
  • Land in center of Interlaken

The Experience

The van ride up to Beatenberg is shorter than you'd think, and then your pilot goes through the safety briefing while you're already in the harness, which feels a bit backwards until you realize that's exactly when the nerves settle. The briefing covers the basics — how to position yourself, what happens if the wind shifts, how the landing works — and it's thorough enough that you stop second-guessing and start paying attention. Groups stay small, capped at 10 people, so there's no rush and no one's standing around waiting while someone else gets suited up.

Once you're clipped in with your guide, the actual takeoff is less dramatic than you'd imagined. You run a short distance — the pilot handles the glider, you just keep your legs moving — and then the thermal catches and you're up. The first 10 to 20 minutes happen in near silence. Below you, Lake Thun spreads out in that impossible blue-green, and the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau sit there doing what they've done for millennia, except now you're eye-level with them instead of looking up from a valley floor. Your guide points things out, but mostly you're just floating, and the Swiss Alps don't need narration.

The landing is the part that sounds scariest and turns out to be the easiest. You come down into the center of Interlaken itself — not a remote field, not a hassle to get back from — and your feet touch grass before your brain has finished processing that you were just flying. Transport back to your hotel is included, so you don't have to figure out how to get down the mountain or find a taxi still wearing a flight suit. Professional photos and videos are available afterward if you want them, though they cost extra (40 Swiss Francs).
