The experience

How do you see two of the Alps' most dramatic waterfalls without spending a full day on the bike? This tour solves it by starting and ending at Flying Wheels bike shop in Interlaken, so you don't need a car or arrange separate transport. The e-bikes do the climbing work for you, which means the 4-hour loop stays manageable even if you're not a serious cyclist. You'll roll through a 12th-century church, cross an impressive wooden bridge over the glacier-fed Lütschine river, and pedal into the charming village of Lauterbrunnen itself before the valley opens up.

The route climbs through forest to reach Staubbach Falls first: a 300-meter ribbon of water that drops so far it turns to mist before hitting the ground. You'll stop here and elsewhere across the Valley of 72 Waterfalls to shoot photos and video. Your guide captures images too and shares them with you afterward. If you want to see Trümmelbach Falls, the optional second waterfall, you'll leave the bikes and walk into a mountain gorge where up to 20,000 liters of glacier water per second carve through the rock. The entrance fee of CHF 16 is paid on site, and there's a café if you'd rather skip it and rest while others explore.

The tour runs in English with a live guide, and you'll need at least a moderate level of fitness to enjoy it. The e-bikes help, but you're still pedaling uphill. Riders must be 16 or older. Rain ponchos are provided if the weather turns, and the route heads back to Interlaken by mid-afternoon, leaving your evening free.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

How high is Staubbach Falls and what makes it different from other waterfalls in the region?

Staubbach Falls drops 300 meters in a free fall, making it one of Switzerland's highest free-falling waterfalls. The water falls so far it turns to mist before reaching the ground, which is why it looks like a veil of spray rather than a solid stream.

Can I visit Trümmelbach Falls on this tour, and what is it like?

Trümmelbach Falls is optional and costs CHF 16, paid at the entrance in cash or card. It's a waterfall inside a mountain gorge where glacier water has carved a channel through the rock. Up to 20,000 liters per second flow through it. If you skip it, there's a café where you can wait for the group.

Do I need to be an experienced cyclist to do this tour?

No. The tour is designed for recreational cyclists, and the e-bikes handle the climbing, so you pedal at a comfortable pace. You do need at least a moderate level of fitness and must be 16 or older.

What's included in the price, and what costs extra?

The e-bike, helmet, basket, guide, rain poncho if needed, and photos taken by your guide are all included. Trümmelbach Falls entrance (CHF 16) is optional and paid separately at the site. Any food or drinks are also your own cost.

Does this tour work if I'm staying in Interlaken and don't have a car?

Yes. The tour starts and ends at Flying Wheels bike shop in Interlaken, so you can walk or take local transport from your hotel. Public transportation options are available nearby if you need them.
