The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and a transfer to Wilderswil, where you'll get fitted with a top-quality e-bike, helmet and a short safety briefing before setting out. The ride climbs first to Unspunnen Castle, a 13th-century ruin where the guide explains the history of the Unspunnen Festival, then pushes higher to the Heimwehfluh viewpoint for sweeping views over Interlaken, the Aare River and Lake Thun. From there you descend toward Weissenau Castle, another atmospheric ruin ringed by reeds and birdlife on the shores of Lake Thun.
The second half of the route takes you east through Unterseen's cobblestone alleys and along the Aare River past the Casino Park fountain, then follows the water to Lake Brienz and into Bönigen, where the turquoise water comes into full view. The return winds through quiet lanes past churches, farmhouses and meadows back to Wilderswil, crossing the historic wooden hydraulic bridge before passing traditional chalets and the Schynige Platte railway station. Your guide photographs the trip throughout and provides the images afterward.
The e-bikes handle the terrain and the climbs, so the pace stays manageable even on the steeper sections. You'll ride past three alpine rivers (the Lütschine, Lombach and Aare), and move between two major lakes without backtracking, which is what packs so much into four hours. The route mixes lakeside calm with forest and farmland, and the stops at the ruins and viewpoints break up the riding into digestible stretches.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What are the Unspunnen and Weissenau castle ruins like?
Unspunnen is a 13th-century fortress where the Unspunnen Festival, a major Swiss cultural event, takes place. Weissenau sits on the shores of Lake Thun surrounded by reeds and birdlife, offering a more atmospheric, lakeside setting than the hilltop castle.
How steep are the climbs on this e-bike tour?
The main climb is to the Heimwehfluh viewpoint, which the e-bike assists with. The route is suitable for all fitness levels as long as you are a confident bicycle rider, and the electric motor handles the elevation gain.
Do I need to be an experienced cyclist to join?
You must be a confident bicycle rider, but you don't need to be an expert. The e-bike's motor does much of the work on climbs, and the guide leads at a pace that keeps the group together.
What's included in the tour price?
The e-bike rental, helmet, transfer from your hotel to Wilderswil, the English-speaking guide, and photos taken during the ride are all included. Meals are not.
Can I do this tour if I'm under 16?
No. Swiss law requires all e-bike riders to be at least 16 years old, so that's the minimum age for this tour.
Does the tour visit both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz?
Yes. You ride along the shores of Lake Thun near Weissenau Castle and the Heimwehfluh viewpoint, then continue to Lake Brienz and into Bönigen, experiencing both lakes in one journey.
