The experience

The tour starts at Yellow Velo in the heart of Interlaken, a five-minute walk from Interlaken West train station, where you'll meet your guide at 9 am and collect your e-bike, helmet and gloves. The first stretch follows the Aare River for about 30 minutes on a flat, wooded cycle path. You may pass the passenger boat heading the same direction. The route then opens onto Lake Thun, where the Aare meets the boat canal and the Niesen mountain rises in the distance. This is the first photo stop.

From there you'll ride to the Weissenau ruins, a 13th-century imperial castle built to control trade over the Alpine passes, then continue through farmland with 360-degree views of the valley, Harder mountain and the village of Beatenburg. The tour brings you to Unterseen's Old Town, centered on the Stadthausplatz and its historic town house, which has anchored public life since the town was founded in 1279. A second medieval ruin offers views over the lakes and valley before you ride to Bonigen on Lake Brienz, where you can swim in the cool water or rest with the group at the lakeside.

The return journey cycles through a traditional organic farm and back along the Aare River to Yellow Velo, where you can buy souvenir t-shirts and bags. The guide knows the valley's quieter spots and will take you off the main routes. Water, snacks and sunscreen are worth bringing for the full three-hour ride.
