Interlaken E-Bike Tour: Lake Thun, Lake Brienz & Unterseen
Three lakes, two villages, one morning on an e-bike
This 3-hour guided e-bike tour around Interlaken takes you through the historic old town of Unterseen, past the blue waters of Lake Thun and the emerald-green Lake Brienz, and includes a stop at a working farm where you can taste fresh milk. Your English-speaking guide leads groups of no more than a dozen, provides the e-bike and helmet, and photographs the route so you can focus on the ride and the landscape.
Step-by-step itinerary
E-bike tour around Interlaken
- Visit Unterseen old town
- Cycle along Aare river alleys
- Visit local farm, taste fresh milk
- Enjoy views of Lake Thun
- Explore Bönigen village
- Admire turquoise waters of Lake Brienz
The Experience
You start in Interlaken with a professional guide and a charged e-bike, then ride through the picture-postcard alleys of Unterseen's historic center before heading toward the water. The route follows quiet paths along the Aare river, where old wooden chalets of Bönigen come into view as you approach the lakes. The e-bike handles the terrain and the hills, so the 3 hours moves at a pace that lets you stop and look — at the blue expanse of Lake Thun with Niesen and Stockhorn rising behind it, and then at Lake Brienz, where the water turns an almost unreal turquoise-green because of glacial sediment in the depths.
A working farm sits on the route, and you'll pull in to see the cows and horses, taste fresh milk straight from the dairy, and get a sense of how the valley actually works beyond the postcard views. The guide knows why the lakes are different colors, which houses in Unterseen date back centuries, and where the best angles are for photos — they shoot the whole route and hand you the images at the end, so you're not managing a camera while you ride.
The tour runs rain or shine; the operator provides rain ponchos and waterproof trousers for free if the weather turns. E-bikes have a weight limit of 110 kg (240 lbs), and children under 16 can ride a regular pedal bike instead of an e-bike by Swiss law — let the operator know your group's ages and sizes when you book. Helmets, water and the bike itself are all included, so you only need to show up ready to ride.

Can I do this e-bike tour if I'm not very fit?
The e-bike does most of the work on hills and longer stretches, so the tour suits all fitness levels. The pace is set by the guide and the group, and you can walk sections if you need to.
What are Lake Thun and Lake Brienz like when you reach them?
Lake Thun is one of Switzerland's largest lakes with wide open views and mountains like Niesen and Stockhorn across the water. Lake Brienz is smaller and deeper, famous for its striking turquoise-green color caused by glacial particles suspended in the water.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Children from age 10 can join; those under 16 ride a regular pedal bike instead of an e-bike. Younger children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available if you ask when booking.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the starting point?
The tour starts in Interlaken, and public transportation stops nearby. Hotel pickup is not included, so plan to arrive by local bus, train or car — there's public parking available in town.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The tour operates in most weather except storms and thunder. If rain comes, the guide provides free rain ponchos and waterproof trousers so you can keep riding comfortably.
Will I get photos from the ride?
Your guide photographs the route throughout the 3 hours and gives you the images at the end, so you can ride without managing a camera.
