itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Scuba diving tour with two dives

  • Pickup from hotel or cruise port
  • Arrive at Marigot Bay dive shop
  • Receive equipment and sign waiver
  • Board boat to west coast dive site
  • Dive 45-60 minutes at first site
  • Enjoy light lunch and drink on board
  • Dive 45-60 minutes at second site
  • Return to Marigot Bay and disembark
  • Drop off at hotel or cruise ship

I still smell the salt from that morning — we’d barely stepped off the minibus at Marigot Bay when our guide, Marcus, greeted us with this big easy grin. He handed out forms and joked about “Caribbean time” while we sorted our gear. The sun was already climbing, making the water look almost fake-blue. I felt both nervous and weirdly calm as we boarded the boat, tanks clanking softly against the deck. There were only six of us plus Marcus and the captain, so it didn’t feel crowded at all.

The ride along St Lucia’s west coast was longer than I expected (maybe 40 minutes?), but honestly I didn’t mind — warm wind in my face, passing fishing boats waving at us. Marcus pointed out Anse Cochon as we slowed down. “We’ll check the wreck first,” he said, and I swear my heart did a little jump. Dropping below was like slipping into another world; everything muffled except my own breath and the distant scrape of parrotfish on coral. At one point a turtle glided past and I almost lost track of my buddy because I just wanted to follow it forever.

Back on board after that first dive, someone passed around juice boxes (tasted sweeter than usual) and sandwiches — nothing fancy but somehow perfect after being underwater. We swapped stories while drying off in patches of sun. The second site was closer to Soufriere — more reef this time, clouds of tiny fish darting around us like confetti every time Marcus tapped his tank to get our attention. He found a spiny lobster tucked under a ledge; I tried to signal “wow” but probably just looked ridiculous with my gloves on.

I’m not sure if it was the light or just relief at surfacing again, but everything felt sharper on that ride back — palm trees sliding past on shore, salt in my hair, even the quiet between people talking. It’s funny how you come up for air and suddenly realize you’ve been holding your breath for more than just the dive.
