The experience
The dive starts with pickup from your hotel or cruise port (northern and western locations only) and transfer to the dive shop in Marigot Bay for check-in. After you complete the required waiver and receive your gear (tanks, weights and all scuba equipment), you board the boat and head out to the island's sheltered West Coast. Your captain picks the best site based on water and weather conditions that day, which could be anywhere from a 15 to 45 minute ride.
Once you arrive at the reef, you spend 45 to 60 minutes diving in crystal-clear water. These beginner dives go down to 45 feet, and a dive master or instructor stays with you throughout. All dives happen in marine reserve areas, which means the reefs are protected and the life you see is abundant. Snorkelers share the same boat but dive separately with their own guides, so you're not mixed with them underwater.
After you surface, the boat heads back and lunch is served on board: a full meal with water and juices included. Then you return to the dive shop and get transferred back to your hotel or port. The whole experience runs about five hours from pickup to drop-off.
