The experience

The tour starts with a Yala safari in an open-top jeep, where the park's 900 square kilometers of jungle, grassland and lagoon hold leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and hundreds of bird species. You spend the night at a hotel with breakfast included, then move into Ella's hill country on day two. The Nine Arches Bridge (a colonial-era stone structure spanning a valley of tea plantations) is the first stop. The blue train passes over it regularly, and timing lets you catch that moment if the schedule aligns. From there, a 20-minute scenic train ride carries you through mountain views and waterfalls, one of the world's most photographed rail journeys at this distance.

The rest of day two unfolds around Ella itself. Little Adam's Peak is an easy hike through tea fields to a summit with views across the hill country. Ravana Falls, a 25-meter cascade surrounded by rock and greenery, sits a short drive away. A tea plantation visit lets you walk the fields, meet pickers and taste fresh Ceylon tea while the mist settles over the hills. Your driver navigates all of it. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and water is provided throughout. Every entrance fee, park ticket and train ticket is already paid: no surprises at gates or stations.

The route ends in Mirissa, where Coconut Hill offers a final viewpoint over the Indian Ocean, its palms and cliff-edge position making it one of Sri Lanka's most photographed spots.
