The experience

The tour starts at the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, where you watch rescued baby elephants being fed from a viewing platform. They come out of the forest for their milk each day as part of Sri Lanka's conservation program. From there, you move into the three-hour safari itself, traveling in a private air-conditioned 4x4 jeep with a guide who knows where the animals congregate. The park's open terrain means you can see across the landscape instead of peering through trees, and the guide stops the jeep when wildlife appears close enough to photograph.

Park entry, the jeep, the guide and bottled water are all included in the price. The only variable is lunch: one option adds it, the other does not. You choose at checkout.
